Anyone who has kids knows what effects Disney has on kids. So if you’re planning a child’s Christmas party why not go for a Christmas Disney party theme?
Disney has a lot of movies with a Christmas theme and you can go to any superstore or party store to get what you need. You may even find that you can get what you need at a Disney store if there is one near you.
If you are creative you could make a game that is similar to pin the tale on the donkey. It’s called pin the ears on Mickey. You could change this to your child’s favorite Disney character. You could play Peter Pan and the lost treasure.
This is where you hide a box with a small wrapped gift for each child and give them clues to find the lost treasure. You could do this with an Alice in Wonderland theme too. You could do this outside if you live in a warm climate. If you’re adventurous you might even want to get a pinata in a Disney character. For real little ones get the pinata that you pull strings so you don’t have broken items in your house.
Food is the next best thing at a party except for the presents. So try to make the food fun and portable. Kids don’t want to waste time sitting down to eat, so finger foods are a must. Mini hotdogs, sandwiches, meatballs, or even pizza rolls can all satisfy little ones that are on the go. Drinks are as important as food, so if you have Goofy punch, Belle mint cocoa or Mickey eggnog they will remember this and ask for it when you see them again.
Disney has all sorts of Christmas themed movies that the kids will love. They also have CD’s of Christmas music that kids will love. The also have music and non-animated movies that the 8-12 year olds would like so you don’t have to worry about content that is not appropriate for them to watch. Just be careful with a Christmas Carol movie. Not all kids like ghost stories and can become frightened by this movie. My daughter is twelve and still doesn’t like it.
Using items from around your house for the party is a good way to save money. If you have an old trunk or Rubbermaid bin, you might want to use that instead of a box for your treasure chest. You could use an old Christmas tree for the kids’ ornaments so they have their own tree and Santa could put a special gift under the tree for each of them while his helper reads to the kids.
If your party is going to be on Christmas Eve you might want to have the kids dress in their PJ’s so when their parents come to pick them up they can go straight to bed. A no fuss way to end a party. If you’re not having your party on Christmas Eve you could end it with singing happy birthday to Jesus, setting up the nativity and having birthday cake to celebrate his birthday.
Kids are more capable then you may think. If you let them help to plan their party you just might be less stressed out and they will be more willing to compromise with you on some things.
You might, if they’re old enough, let them help decorate and prepare the food and drinks. They might even want to wrap the gifts. Don’t worry about what anything looks like. If your children are happy with the way things turn out so should you be.
If you remember what Christmas is supposed to be about, not only will you have a good time so will your children. A Christmas Disney party theme can be easy if you want it to be. Just relax and things will take care of themselves.
