Probably no one else on earth had that kind of engagement or even heard about one like the engagement we had.

We actually had a virtual engagement online because we were held up in different countries due to certain funny situations.

We had initially met through a matrimonial site. We lived on opposite coasts of the country. We traveled to each other’s town to meet and get to know the family members as well.

Just before the engagement was fixed, I had to travel to an Eastern Europe country for a week’s assignment for my company. We planned to have the engagement two weeks after I got back from Europe. Since the flight dates were finalized, we also fixed the date for the engagement. We just had to send the invitations after I got back.

I flew to Europe as planned and finished my assignment on time. I was scheduled to fly back the next day and that is when the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland started. All flights were indefinitely canceled and I was stuck in Europe. We just didn’t know what to do.

We knew it would take a long time for things to clear up. We didn’t want to postpone the engagement however. It was my grandmother of all people that came up with this wonderful idea of a virtual engagement. She had just started learning how to email and was fascinated with computers. So it seemed natural for her to suggest this.

Given the situation, we all agreed that it would be the right thing to do.
