The Christmas season is almost here and believe it or not people are already planning their Christmas parties.

If you’ve bought a new house this would be the perfect way to show it off. You might be asking yourself where to start.

Well it would be good to start at the beginning with the appetizer.

What is a great appetizer for Christmas party you may ask. Well there are a couple of different appetizers that you can serve. What you serve depends on where you live and what you’re used to. Puff pastry is one of the greatest appetizers because you can either make it savory or sweet.

Puff pastries are so versatile. You could make meat pies, cream puffs, you could fill them with ice cream and drizzle the top with chocolate sauce for a nice chilled appetizer if you live in a warm climate.

Or you could fill them with mince meat and have a puff turnover if you lie in a cooler climate. You don’t have to make puff pastry from scratch, you could purchase it in the grocery store in the frozen food section. You can even buy the filling if you want to and put it all together in less then thirty minutes.

Another versatile appetizer is the cheese ball. If you think that is a boring appetizer, think again. You can make the cheese ball in the shape of a snowman, Santa or even a snowflake. You use any cheese that is soft enough to mold but make sure you like the cheese you use because you might have some left over. If you have any cheese leftover you might want to use it in a casserole or something else. You can decorate with coconut, nuts, peppercorns or some other herb that you would like to use to make statement with your cheese ball. If you live in a part of the world where you can get fresh real crab meat, you might want to make mini crab cakes and plate them with pieces of the shelled crab.

You could also make full sized crab cake and plate them with basil and lemon. The different colors would be really beautiful.

If you don’t live in an area where fresh seafood is available at a reasonable price, you could buy frozen crab cakes and follow the directions on the box. When buying frozen crab cakes make sure it says real crab meat or lump crab meat. These are the better tasting cakes so you won’t be wasting your money.

You can make petit fours. These are little cakes covered in fondant or a thin icing.

These little cakes are only about one inch square and are usually two layers of cake with pudding in between he two layers. The cake can be white, yellow or chocolate with vanilla or chocolate pudding.

The holidays can be a very busy time of year so if you don’t have time to make petit fours you can buy them at a bakery. If you don’t know how they taste ask if the bakery has some samples you can try, that way you don’t buy a flavor you don’t like.

With these ideas you’re just getting started. Use your imagination when planning your party and you will never ask yourself what is a great appetizer for Christmas party again. You need to relax and have fun and enjoy your guests.
