Harry Potter Theme Party

Harry Potter parties aren't just for six-year-olds! At least that was my theory when I had one for my sixteenth birthday.
The invitations were an important first step - I wrote them on nice paper and worded them in the manner of a Hogwarts invitation and closed them with a wax seal. Luckily, all my friends are big Harry Potter fans are were willing to play along, so I encouraged them to come in costume.
Food was the second step. I wanted to get a Harry Potter cake from the supermarket, but was unable to obtain one - may you have better luck. I was able to make my own fun Harry Potter food, though - cream soda can be substituted for butterbeer, and many Harry Potter candies are readily obtainable in candy stores. We weren't of legal drinking age, so we made no attempts at firewhisky, but feel free to invent a recipe.
A Harry Potter party for grownups doesn't necessarily require games, but you could look up the rules for broom-free Quidditch or do wand-making (buy wooden dowels, paint, and if you dare, glitter) - or just pop in one of the movies and relax. The essential matter is that you get huge nerd points for throwing a Harry Potter party, and that, as we all know, is what counts at the end of the day.
